Sangha Hwang

Sangha Hwang is a violinist whose career bridges the worlds of chamber music, orchestral performance, and contemporary creation. Born in Kwang-ju, South Korea, he began his studies at Yonsei University under Prof. Young-mi Cho and the celebrated Prof. Dong-Suk Kang, before moving to Europe and continuing at the Universität der Künste Berlin under Prof. Bernhard Hartog and subsequently Prof. Uwe-Martin Haiberg. He completed his Konzertexamen with highest honours at the Hochschule für Musik des Saarlandes under the mentorship of Prof. David Grimal, one of Europe's most celebrated violinists and founding artistic director of Ensemble Les Dissonances.

Initially engaged at the Orchestre Philharmonique de Marseille as Principal Second Violin, he was later invited to take the chair as Concertmaster (1er Violon Solo). He remains a regular guest in both seats. His broader orchestral career spans a wide range of leadership roles: Concertmaster of the Korean National Police Orchestra and the Hochschulorchesters of both UdK Berlin and HfM Saar; Orchestra internships at the Brandenburg State Orchestra Frankfurt (Oder) and the Saarland State Orchestra; and performances with Ensemble Resonanz Hamburg and Solistenensemble Kaleidoskop Berlin.

Co-founder of the Isang Streichquartett in Berlin (a project born in collaboration with the Berliner Ensemble Theatre), he has presented chamber music across Europe and internationally at prestigious venues including the Bergen Festspiele, Hitzacker Musikfest, Le Festival Automne en Normandie in Rouen, the Spoleto Theater Festival, the Fränkische Musiktage, and concert halls in New York, Seoul, and Milan. As a soloist he first appeared with the Kwangju National Orchestra in 2001, and later with the Korean National Police Orchestra and the Saarländisches Staatsorchester.

Today, Sangha Hwang is a member of Ensemble Les Dissonances in Paris, performing regularly on tour and in ongoing CD productions with one of Europe's leading conductor-less ensembles. He also appears as a guest artist with the Chamber Soloists of Detroit.

For several years at the Hochschule für Musik des Saarlandes, he served simultaneously as teaching assistant in the violin classes of both Prof. David Grimal and Prof. Gordan Nikolic.

Away from the stage, he holds a degree from École 42, a programming school known for its selective admissions and demanding curriculum.

Language learning is another lifelong passion — he works professionally in Korean, English, German, and French, with additional studies in Italian, Spanish, and Mandarin.
